“This has been one of the most rewarding semesters I have had, out of the six years I have been in college. I thought it wasn't possible financially but, there are a variety of scholarships around and start to save now, it is possible!”

What Study Abroad Provides For You

Education enhancement. An experience to study internationally adds a new perspective to your academics. You will see things from another point of view; you will develop your analytical and critical thinking skills.

Resume building. Study in another country adds a new dimension to your career planning. In an age of global economies and technology, experience abroad distinguishes your background from the rest.

“Studying abroad has expanded my views on cultures and people all around the world. During my time abroad I have grown so much as an individual and I have gained a greater sense of who I am as a person.”

Rachel DeVinny, Scotland

Development of self-awareness. At times we impose limitations on ourselves that hinder our progress toward our goals. By stepping outside the familiar and encountering different people and places, you gain an enhanced understanding of yourself through the world around you.

Understanding of another culture. Living and learning in an unfamiliar environment adds to your understanding of world cultures, which in turn enhances your growth personally as well as your growth as a member of a team.

HTM/RTM International Experience Policy

We are pleased to announce our new International Experience Policy. Our new policy will provide you with a list of pre-approved schools and faculty led trips that will clear the International Experience Requirement for HTM/RTM students. Any programs outside of the “approved program list” requires written consent from HTM/RTM department prior to the trip for it to count towards the International Experience Requirement. Please review the policy in its entirety: International Experience Policy can be found in the HTM office or download the policy here.

  • SDSU GE Study Abroad Approvals site which contains all approved courses for general education across a host of institutions in study abroad. Students studying abroad must continue to meet with an advisor and file the study abroad academic approval form as part of the advising process. However, advisors and students will be able to use the site to identify courses pre-approved for the various areas of the General Education requirements. The site is one of the links (under Advising) on the Academic Advising Center homepage. This list will continue to grow as new courses are approved and added.

Please remember, if you are considering a program that is not on the HTM/RTM pre-approved list, please book an appointment with Mr. Winston or Ms. Jeffries as we do require written consent prior to the trip for it to count towards the International Experience requirement.
