RTM Internship Details

“My internship with Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra gave me the opportunity to bring the thrill and excitement of winter recreation to people with disabilities. I have learned a lot about running a non-profit recreational program and will use these skills for my future endeavors.”

Patrick Arsenault, RTM Internship

For the student of the Recreation & Tourism Management Program

We require all RTM students to fulfill two practicum experiences to complete their degrees:

  • 125 hours of introductory professional work experience in the field of recreation and tourism leadership
  • 500 hours of advanced work experience for 12 units or 250 hours for 6 units

Students are solely responsible for securing a position with prospective agencies for their fieldwork and internship. Supervision is provided by faculty advisors; however, this is a self-directed academic activity and is created by the student and employer.

Students should meet directly with KJ LeCesne, RTM Internship Coordinator, the semester prior to enrolling in the class to discuss options.

Appointments can be made by emailing KJ at klecesne@sdsu.edu

It is also strongly recommended for RTM students to attend RTM Agency/Career Night to get acquainted with local agencies to explore fieldwork and internship opportunities with potential employers. Our Agency Night is typically scheduled in March or April every year. Please contact the program coordinator at rtsa.sdsu@gmail.com for further details.
