About Jason Hemmens

Jason Hemmens has been professionally involved in developing innovative recreation programs and facilities for a broad range of constituents for over 20 years. Currently, he serves as the Deputy Director for the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation, where he oversees the operations of over 140 park and recreation facilities and programs including regional and day use parks, campgrounds, open space preserves, historic sites, nature and recreation centers, wedding and special event facilities, sports fields, 53,000+ acres of parkland, 380+ miles of multi-use trails, a budget of over $30 million and 300+ full and part-time employees. He also manages marketing activities for the department including public/media relations, sales promotion, direct marketing, trend research, product/service development, advertising/media buying, and naming rights.

He is an active member in numerous professional organizations in the recreation and tourism field and has presented on a range of topics to groups including national, regional, and local conferences and workshops. In the spring of 2008, he began teaching courses in the Recreation and Tourism Management Program at San Diego State University.
