All students enrolled in the Recreation and Tourism Management program are required to fulfil two practicum experiences to complete their degrees. RTM 284 Supervised Field Work (3 units) requires 125 hours of introductory professional work experience in the field of recreation and tourism leadership. RTM 498 Internship in Recreation and Tourism Management requires up to 500 hours of advanced work experience for 12 units (or 250 hours for 6 units).
Students need to plan ahead as they are responsible for securing a position with prospective agencies for fieldwork/internship. Supervision of the fieldwork and internship are provided by faculty advisors, however, this is a self-directed academic activity. Please click here for additional information on RTM 284 and RTM 498 procedures.
Fieldwork and internships provide students with real-life experiences that take place in a variety of public, private, semi-private and commercial agencies providing situations for students to apply theoretical foundations learned in the classroom. Here are a few useful Websites that post opportunities in the recreation and tourism field to get students started.
We also have a job board for RTM students next to PSFA 435. Come and check out job/internship opportunities in recreation and tourism!
