Katherine Spilde, Ph.D. (UCSC 1998) Dr. Spilde is a cultural anthropologist specializing in tribal government gaming. Her areas of research include the economic and social impacts of gambling and Indian gaming, responsible gaming and corporate social responsibility, needs assessment and program evaluation, federal recognition, and tribal governance. She has worked with over 100 tribal governments in the United States on economic development and gaming issues and does applied work on intergovernmental relations, business development and mitigation. She is currently working on responsible gaming program development by investigating the ways that casino operators and tribal governments can work together to develop comprehensive education and prevention programs for employees and casino guests.
